Access to the island is exclusively by air, and the most important routes currently available (updated 2026) are:

  • Via Jeddah (Saudi Arabia): Yemenia Airways currently offers a weekly direct flight (usually on Tuesdays) between Jeddah and Socotra.
  • Via Cairo (Egypt): Weekly flights are operated by Yemenia Airways, usually with a stopover in Aden or Mukalla.

The climate in Socotra is divided into two main seasons:

  • The ideal season (October to May): The weather is mild and the seas are calm, making it perfect for swimming, diving, and hiking.
  • The monsoon season (June to September): Tourism comes to a complete standstill, and most agencies close due to the strong monsoon winds that make navigation and air travel extremely difficult.
  • Safety: Socotra is very safe for solo female travelers, and the local community is very conservative and respectful of tourists.
  • Clothing: Modest and loose-fitting clothing is recommended in Hadibu and the villages (covering the shoulders and knees). In camping areas and on more remote beaches, you can wear swimwear or sportswear more freely.

The laws are subject to change, but generally, bringing drones into Yemen is prohibited without prior and very complex permits.

Warning: Your device may be confiscated at the airport if you do not have the necessary permits, so consult your travel agency before carrying one.

There is a major hospital in Hadibu (such as Sheikh Khalifa Hospital), which provides good services for moderate cases.
